The "Meilleur Film" prizes at last night's Hot d'Or Awards went to Billionaire (Best European Film), Ritual (Best French Film), and Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge (Best American Film). Spanish director Allessandro del Mar won Best European Director for Billionaire, John B. Root won Best French Director for Montre-moi du rose, and John Stagliano won best American Director for Fashionistas Safado Berlin.
The awards were held annually from 1992–2001 on the fringes of the Cannes Film Festival, and revived last night in honor of the 20th anniversary of France's Hot Video Magazine.
It was a big night for Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge, from American adult entertainment studio Digital Playground:
Katsuni, a French-Vietnamese actress and Digital Playground contract star, won Meilleure actrice française (Best French Actress) for her roll in the film, Pirates II star Jesse Jane won Best American Actress, and lead pirate Evan Stone won Best American Actor. Pirates II also won an award for Meilleur scénario américain (Best Scene). Earlier this year, the film won 2009 AVN Awards stateside for Best Video Feature, Best Director (Joone), Best Actor (Evan Stone), Best Supporting Actor (Ben English), Best Supporting Actress (Belladonna), Best Videography (Joone and Oliver Henry), Best Art Direction, Best Makeup, Best Special Effects, Best DVD Extras, Best HD Production, and Best Overall Marketing Campaign.
Other American winners at the 2009 Hot d'Or Awards included Kayden Kross (Best American Starlet), Jenna Haze (Best American Female Performance), and Lexington Steele (Best American Male Performance)
