Gainesville players douse head coach Mark Williams in celebration.

I read his blog just as I was trying to decide what to write about tonight. He had a link to an article on ESPN by one of his favorite sportswriters, Rick Reilly.

Today he wrote about two high school football teams. The home team was Grapevine Faith and the visitors were Gainesville State. I’ll ask you to read the article and then come back and finish here. Trust me, it’ll be worth reading.

Okay, are you teary-eyed? Don’t lie. I can see you sniffing a bit.

Yeah, that was a touching article.

It made me wonder—why are articles like that one so scarce. Yes, I know newspapers need to cover the news and it’s mostly bad and depressing. But there are the heartwarming, human stories like this one. It makes us sit up a little straighter and feel proud of us as humans.

We can be kind. We can be gracious. We can break barriers. We can make everyone feel like winners.

I’m glad my brother made me cry. Thanks, Jeff.

Tell me what you think about the people at Grapevine Faith School. The conversation continues with you.

Just take it one gigantic, earth-shattering crisis at a time.
