2008 was the year of reinvention. Britney came back from a difficult and troubled time in her life to be seen as a talented performer again. We no longer look at her only as the no-panty-wearing, head-shaving party girl with a mental illness. She’s settled down into motherhood and a serious career.
Bill Clinton is a senior statesman. Besides the odd joke regarding interns and such, the public is pretty much leaving him alone, and perceiving him as a person of worth.
Ashlee Simpson got a new nose, a new husband, and a new baby. No one thinks about her disastrous debacle on Saturday Night Live. She’s married to Mr. Fall Out Boy himself, for Pete’s sake. And the Dog Whisperer even taught them how to care for their bulldogs. That’s pretty mainstream.
These are just a few examples out of many I could have chosen. But if the public can forget about the serious mistakes of these celebrities, why can’t we also get a Mulligan? Would you like a do-over on anything? I realize this is a public forum, so I’m not likely to get detailed responses. But still, I’m an optimist, so here goes…the conversation continues with you.
