Confession: There’s no excuse, but I did not check Snopes.com on this. I figured that Wheel of Fortune would have checked before allowing Vanna to say it. But alas, it didn’t happen that way, and I’m a loser for not checking it myself. Rest assured that I will ALWAYS go with my policy of checking items on Snopes.com before taking someone’s word for an item's veracity. Thanks to Tim (the first comment below) for catching me on this. Stay tuned, because I’m sure I’ll make more mistakes. Below you’ll find the article as originally written.
I’m not a snob, but I was surprised to learn something extremely valuable from Vanna White.
You know when you have a rental car and you never know what side the gas cap is on? Well, if you look next to the gas gauge you’ll see a picture of a gas pump. The side of the gas pump that has the nozzle is the side of the car where the gas cap resides.
It’s true. It works. Vanna White is a veritable genius. I felt like I won the lottery, and couldn’t stop smiling. Check this on your car(s) and you’ll see it’s accurate.
This got me to thinking. We can learn important things from surprising places, and just need to be open to receiving the information. How often have we discounted some item simply because of where it came from?
Of course, we also have to be discerning. I’m constantly checking with Snopes.com to see if something is valid or not, or if it’s an urban myth.
What have you learned from someone or somewhere surprising? Let us know. I can’t wait. If it’s a good item—who knows—I might be quoting you soon.
