You make the call???
As James Pelura, head of the Maryland GOP, resigns his position as Chairman of a State party in dire straights, some are asking why now, while others are asking why not sooner?
The GOP head came under constant criticism from party insiders and elected officials, for not “living up” to the responsibilities as head of a party in need of a Karl Rove styled campaign strategy and voter registration effort in a true-blue state like Maryland. However with damaging suits pending regarding the Michael Steele campaign funds, not much seems to have been done within the headquarters to expect a good showing come November 2010.
However as the November 14th state party convention lingers, with no real leader at the helm, expect of course the Republican thoroughbred, Robert Ehrlich, who seems to be M.I.A. or at least mum thus far, the question on everyone’s mind now is; who shall take the reigns to lead this ship through the rough terrain of campaign season 2010?
Below are a list of possible candidates that have been mentioned by party insiders and loyalists. Take your time and examine who you think is capable of leading this Party back to promise?
*Mary Kane, the former secretary of state under former governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) -- and wife of John Kane, Pelura's predecessor as GOP chairman.
* John White, an Annapolis marketing executive, who was the runner-up in 2006 to Pelura for party chairman;
* Chris Cavey, the current first vice chairman of the party;
* Ellen Sauerbrey, the GOP nominee for governor in Maryland in 1994 and 1998;
* Al Redmer, a former minority leader in the House of Delegates and state insurance commissioner under Ehrlich; or
*Daniel "The Whig Man" Vovak, a political eccentric who often wears a white powdered wig when he speaks at events.
