Palazzo taffeta gown

A vast majority of brides opt for a specific type of gown in their attempts to look authentic, and fit into the generally accepted mould of a bride. As far as necklines go, the strapless neckline would definitely win the popularity award. Women flock towards strapless gowns having strong faith that the stereotypical gown will transform every woman into a stunning bride. In reality the strapless neckline is only one of many different options available that are equally stylish and possibly more flattering.

The bateau neck also known as a boat neck, is characterized by a completely straight high neckline on the front and back of the dress that runs from shoulder to shoulder cutting across the collar bone. The inspiration for this type of neckline came from nautical shirts that were designed with a straight neckline for the convenience of the sailors and for easy removal. The bateau was very prevalent around the 1950s and is definitely making a come back, Vera Wang recently designed a gorgeous Grace Kelly inspired bateau neck wedding gown for Ivanka Trump. A regular strapless gown can be converted into a bateau neck by adding an overlay of sheer fabric; this allows the bride to feel more covered up without covering too much. In addition the bateau neck can also be used for the bridesmaid dresses; creating a chic and ultra feminine look.

Bateau necks are especially flattering for women who have one or more of the following features; above average height, long neck, small to medium build, and a small bust.
