"Mr. Olafson, I'm ready for my closeup..."

Lately I've been having fantasies of a documentary on my life in burlesque. Working title: Vivienne VaVoom: Drenched in Glitter. And if I could get my dream director, I think it's gotta be Mike Olafson. In a city where everyone seems to be 2 degrees from everyone else, I'm sure I must have met Mr. Olafson- though I'm sure I would have remembered, especially since our aesthetics are rather nicely matched:

Olafson has written a pulp novel set in the late 30's, featuring femme fatals, Nazis, the mythical city of Atlantis, adventure and mystery (have I mentioned how I'm in love with Indiana Jones?).

He's also directing a series called "Vintage Adventure" connecting history and adventure, and investigating explorations and explorers of the past.

And his full length feature Gears, Grease and Guitars -An American "Rock n' Rod-umentary" premieres this Saturday, April 26 at the Oriental Theater on 44th and Tennyson. Featuring lotsa burlesque, rockabilly, hot cars AND a history of drag racing in Denver.

Outside at 6:00 PM Vintage Dragsters & Hot Rods will be on display and then the movie starts @ 7:00 PM. Then, after the movie, local rockabilly bands The Mighty 18 Wheeler & Eddie Clendening & the Blue Ribbon Boys will perform PLUS Miss Orchid Mei & Lady Shanime will provide a little live burlesque.

I'll be over at the Pink Elephant that night, showing off my newest class of burlesque grads, then dancing in the Shimmy Shaker Show, but luckily, there's two more showings on Sunday at the Broomfield Auditorium. Out there, the car show starts at 10:00 AM and the screenings are at 12:00 and 2:15 PM. Maybe I'll take my dear, ol' dad, who got thrown in the slammer in the 1960's for burnin' rubber on the streets of Denver!
