The Wolfsonian-FIU  Museum will be holding the second of a three part lecture series on Innovation by Design entitled  Deranged  Syntax:  Adam Kalkin’s ABC of Container Architecture
Thursday, February 26th
 7:00PM
Miami Beach
305.535.2644

If you have a shred of self-preservation genetics, you just might wander into this Wolfsonian  lecture  as Architect Adam Kalkin discusses his work.  After all, you never know when the Foreclosure  Fairy will visit and you’ll need to dusk off those architectural plans of yours for making a home out of the cardboard box  containing your parents new  Frigidaire  back in  ‘68.

You will consider this an hour well spent before the dinner date, even if fear and panic are not your daily friends; I attended the first of this lecture series in January on Brilliant Simplicity as METROPOLIS Magazine  editor Susan  Szenasy  discussed new  ideas on sustainable architecture; a thoughtful and exciting concept.

Ya gotta be just a teensy-weensy bit intrigued by the title of this week’s talk -  “Deranged Syntax”  exploring the relationship between risk and meaning …….now there’s a subject near and dear to us all.

Lecturer Adam Kalkin is a New Jersey-based Architect who has utilized stacked orange shipping crates to create his “green” homes, created a “Suburban House Kit” complete with car, driveway and 3-bedroom house…the ultimate “Take-out”, I’d say; and ILLY Coffee used his Push Button House for their Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2007.

The next talk of the Innovation by Design series takes place on Thursday,   March 26th, 7:00PM
“When You Meet the Expectations of Women, You Exceed the Expectations of Men”   (I think it best not to comment on the title, thank you) delves into design, gender, and consumption in the European context.   We may need to pen that into our calendars  “tout de suite.”
