Much of Minnesota has gotten some significant snowfall in the past month or tw
o; now is the time to take advantage of it! Countless pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles were trailering snowmobiles, many of which have not gotten much action over the last couple of years, North on Highway 10 yesterday afternoon in search of Minnesota's best trails. Again this weekend, there are winter storm warnings over much of the state. Northern Minnesota is no exception with some areas expecting over a foot of the fluffy stuff. Those that headed out last night are sure to have a blast. However, the large amounts of snow that seem to keep coming this year, ensure a one of the best snowmobiling seasons on record giving those of us left behind this weekend plenty of time to plan a trip up North.
In several of my previous posts, I have mentioned the beauty of the northland as well as the potential for some of the country's best snowmobiling. Make no mistake, there are groomed trails throughout the state and acres upon acres of open country for one to blaze a path through untouched, fresh powder, but the Minnesota arrow head is home to some of the greatest snowmobiling anywhere.
Some of the best and most picturesque trails run North out of Duluth all the way to the Canadian border. There are some great stops as well. The AmericInn in Silver Bay, Minnesota, has cozy rooms and the best amenities including an indoor pool, hot tub, and an expanded continental breakfast where you will be able to make your own Belgian waffles! The best thing about the AmericInn in Silver Bay is that the snowmobile trails are right off of the parking lot!
Keep in mind that there are winter weather advisories for much of the state. Travel tonight is not advised, but if you must, be prepared for snow covered roads and poor visibility. Be careful and drive safely! Click the link for some helpful winter travel advice.
