NoDa area of Charlotte

If you live in Charlotte you’ve probably heard of the NoDa area of town. If not, NoDa is Charlotte’s arts district where you’ll find many local art galleries, pubs, boutiques, and several restaurants. NoDa is short for “North Davidson”, and the area centers on the intersection of North Davidson Street and 36th Street, about three miles northeast of Uptown Charlotte. A visitor to this area of the city will find a highly walkable area filled with locally owned art galleries, trendy restaurants, bars, pubs, shops, performance venues for live music, loft apartments, and historic single family homes in the surrounding neighborhood (this area was once a textile mill center).

One of NoDa’s most popular events begins this evening, March 6, and continues every other Friday evening this year through December 18 (see date’s below, typically the first and third Friday of each month). On these Fridays, NoDa hosts the NoDa Gallery Crawl. Similar to the idea of a pub crawl, the NoDa Gallery Crawl consists of visitors and participants leisurely strolling from one art gallery to the next. The art galleries in NoDa represent a wide variety of types of artwork and at various stages of artistic development. Many of the art galleries also provide complimentary snacks and drinks to visitors. The gallery crawl typical begins around 6:00 PM and goes until later in the evening, although it is very much a come and go, move at your own pace type of event.

You might want to combine your Gallery Crawl experience with a dinner at one of the several interesting restaurants in NoDa, or patronize one of the local watering holes while listening to a live band performance. There are also a number of boutique shops, as well as a “dog bar” where both humans and dogs are welcome.
