So apparently I've been way in the closet about something, and that something is Daniel Radcliffe/Harry Potter's smoking habit. Many a celeb is a secret smoker (Eva Longoria, for example), while some outwardly do it and don't care who sees them (Katherine Heigl), but I can't believe I'm going to have to put Daniel in the former group. Dan, honestly, what are you thinking? I'd prefer you run around naked all the time screaming "equus! equus!" than smoke. Really, I wouldn't mind you doing so at all.
The thing that really gets me about smoking is that these days, the horrors of doing so are no secret. Back in the day when people smoked, they weren't necessarily aware of the damage they were doing. These days, the damage is there in your face. I can't go a day without seeing a Truth commercial featuring a man with a robotic voice talking through a hole in his neck.
Maybe it's because Daniel Radcliffe will perennially appear to me as Harry Potter, boy wizard, but seeing him puffing away in front of his apartment in the West Village really upsets me. Not that this isn't true for other celebrities, but I honestly feel Daniel is extremely talented. I suppose smoking can come with the territory in Hollywood, but this is New York (yes, I know a lot of New Yorkers smoke too) and we'd like you to remain on stage, healthy and cigarette less.
Do I speak for myself here? Are there those who would stick up for Radcliffe's habit? Realistically, I know that it's his choice, his body, whatever. But for someone so young with the world literally at his fingertips...doesn't he know soon those fingertips will be stained with nicotine? Gross, if you ask me.
