Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey was rushed to a Washington, D.C., hospital after collapsing during a speech at the Wardman Park Mariott in Northwest.  Mukasey attended the Federalist Society's annual dinner but started to waiver towards the end of his speech. The attorney general slumped to the floor within seconds after finishing his closing remarks during the dinner and was rushed to nearby George Washington University Medical Center.

Emergency medicine was rendered on the scene by the Mukasey's entourage, according to an official statement released by the Justice Department.

"Upon his collapse, emergency first aid was rendered by the Attorney General's security detail and a doctor who was on the scene," the statement said.

The statement also said that doctors will keep Mukasey overnight for further observations, that he is receiving excellent care  and "appreciates all of the good wishes and prayers he has received."

No details are available at this time but doctors will "update the public when information becomes available.
