Women are now resorting to more violent acts of revenge.
Violent acts of revenge used to be largely a male response to infidelity. But now women are getting in on the act.
Women are increasingly employing physically violent forms of revenge against their cheating mates.
Violent Acts of Revenge
Below is a sampling of some violent acts revenge committed by women against men over the past few years:
• Earlier this month 4 women - a scorned wife, the man’s two mistresses, and the sister of one mistress lured the cheating husband to a motel room where they tied him up, and superglued his penis to his stomach, to punish him for his cheating ways.
• Last month a betrayed wife in New York, poured boiling water on her cheating husband’s crotch because of his history of extramarital affairs.
• In 2003, Clara Harris, a Texas dentist was convicted of killing her cheating husband by repeatedly running over him in her car in the parking lot of the motel where she found him with his mistress. Since then, there have been several copycat cases of vehicular assault by women against cheating men.
• The Lorena Bobbitt case attracted worldwide attention in 1993, when Bobbitt cut off her husband’s penis because of his marital abuse and repeated infidelities.
• Following Bobbitt’s example, in 2005, a woman in Alaska severed her lover’s penis and flushed it down the toilet because he wouldn’t leave his wife to marry her.
The examples above may be extreme, but thousands of women have committed similar acts of violence to get revenge on their cheating mates. See the article entitled How Betrayed Wives and Other Infidelity Victims Get Revenge on Their Cheating Mates.
Violent Revenge by Women Around the World
Female-perpetrated violent acts of revenge are happening all over the world. Consider the two recent examples below.
• In Kuwait, 41 women and children were killed and 52 others hospitalized when the groom’s ex wife set fire to a wedding tent. She poured gasoline on the tent and lit it because she felt she’d been mistreated by the groom during their marriage.
• A retired teacher in China went on trial this month for murdering her cheating husband because of blatant infidelity that spanned several decades. After putting sleeping pills in his lunch, she strangled him with a rope when he fell asleep.
The Recent Case of William Taylor and His “I Cheated” Sign
This week, another considerably less violent case of revenge in the state of Virginia, has received widespread media attention around the world.
The wife of a man calling himself William Taylor, ordered her cheating husband to proclaim his infidelity to the world by standing on a busy highway with a sign around his neck that read “I cheated. This is my punishment.”
Taylor should consider himself luck, in view of the things other women have done to get revenge on their cheating mates.
The Desire for Revenge
It’s natural for an infidelity victim to experience an urge to get revenge. When the shock and disbelief of being cheated on wear off, hurt and anger follow, accompanied by the desire for revenge.
Some people are able to control this urge. But others feel compelled to even the score.
Harmless Revenge vs Violent Revenge
Some forms of revenge are fairly harmless - things like hiding one cufflink from every pair he owns, posting his name and the details of his infidelity on one or more of the websites that allow women to report cheating men, spreading rumors that he’s a lousy lover, or making the cheating husband stand on a busy highway with an “I cheated” sign around his neck.
While these things may annoy, embarrass or inconvenience the cheater; they don’t cause any real harm. And they allow the scorned woman or the betrayed wife to feel vindicated, so she can move on with her life.
But violent forms of revenge and other illegal activities can land a person in jail. Thousands of women are behind bars for attempting to get revenge by shooting, stabbing, battering or physically assaulting their cheating mates.
There’s really no need to resort to violent, criminal, or illegal activities to get revenge on a cheater. Especially since there are legal, financial, and non-violent options that accomplish the same thing.
Anyone who is that determined to get revenge on a cheating mate, should be aware that there are ways to do it without running afoul of the law. The Best Kind of Revenge
Sometimes the best revenge is no revenge at all.
Three years ago I interviewed Beth (not her real name) who divorced her husband after finding out about his affair: Since Beth was known to be a very vindictive person, Beth’s ex-husband fully expected her to retaliate against him in some way.
But Beth decided he wasn’t worth the effort, and went on with her life.
This turned out to be the best thing Beth could have done. Mutual friends to Beth that her ex-husband was obsessed with trying to figure out what Beth would do to him for revenge, and when she would make her move.
He never again had a moment’s peace of mind, and for Beth, that turned out to be the best revenge of all.
