Lost in the all the hoopla over Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno's departure to the NFL was the announcement that the Dawgs landed commitment number 18 in defensive end Montez Robinson.
Robinson, a senior of out Avon, Indiana committed to UGA on January 6, but as the rumors grew regarding Stafford and Moreno, the limelight faded from Robinson. Even though it was not the most discussed topic of the week, it was still a huge pick up for the Dawgs, who wanted to sign a top-ranked defensive end with this recruiting class.
Robinson is an explosive playmaker who has a big frame to grow into. He is quite athletic and quick for a 6'5" player. He may not be an instant contributor for UGA, but given time and proper coaching, he could be a lineman similar to Quentin Moses in that both possessed great rush speed and burst off the snap.
Robinson was originally committed to Auburn, but rescinded his commitment after Auburn and then coach Tommy Tuberville parted ways. He chose the Dawgs over offers from other schools including Alabama, Illinois, Louisville and Purdue, among others.
