The Academy Award nominations were released this morning and “The Wrestler,” while represented, got the short end of the stick.

Mickey Rourke was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the titular role in the movie, and Marisa Tomei was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Supporting Role for “Cassidy,” the aging stripper.

Surprisingly Bruce Springsteen’s original song “The Wrestler” was snubbed from the Original Song category, despite winning a Golden Globe earlier this month.

Also, director Darren Aronofsky was left off the Best Director list, as was the movie itself for Best Picture of the Year, which surprised me as I figured it was on the short list of eight or ten films that could be nominated in that category.

The Academy Awards will be presented on February 22.
