According to ESPN, Boston College Head Football Coach Jeff Jagodzinski will be fired if he interviews for the vacant head coaching position with the New York Jets. The interview is scheduled for Monday.
Jagodzinski has had at least two meetings with athletic director Gene DeFilippo, including one on Saturday where Jagodzinski was informed that he would be fired if he interviewed with the Jets. Jagodzinski plans to go through with the interview.
Jagodzinski was named head coach on December 6, 2006 to replace Tom O’Brien, who was leaving the heights to coach at N.C. State.
In his two years as head coach, Jagodzinski has led the Eagles to two consecutive ACC championship games and a number 10 ranking in 2007; their highest finish since 1984.
If Jagodzinski ends up with the Jets it would not be his first NFL job. He was an assistant in the league from 1999 until 2006 with the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons. He was the Packers’ offensive coordinator when he was hired by Boston College.
If he is fired, reports say the Eagles will name offensive coordinator Steve Logan the new head coach.
