“I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.”
Abraham Lincoln
I recently spent a few days in Washington DC. Finding myself with a few hours of free time up my sleeve, I decided to do some exploring! My exploration took me to the famed Washington Mall and ultimately to the Lincoln Memorial. My trip to the Lincoln Memorial was extremely powerful. The structure itself is magnificent but the truly moving aspect was the sense of calm and peace that walking around the monument inspired in me. I have always been fascinated with Abraham Lincoln and to stand in the shadow of his presence was a spiritual experience. Reading Lincolns 2
nd inaugural address which is carved in marble within the Lincoln Memorial was a moving experience in itself (

It’s when I spend time in these kinds of places that I realize how insignificant some of my everyday problems really are. Here was a man who almost single handedly, through the force of his character brought together a nation on the brink of self destruction. Although he is long gone his ethos and passion still linger in the American consciousness. It is for moments like this I tend to stray to the historical sites of the world as they often embody the strengths and passions of those great people who came before us and teach us that anything is possible in life.
