The Michigan Bigfoot Information Center (www.michiganbigfoot.org) is the online home of the Michigan Bigfoot Studies Group, a grassroots organization of local residents who pursue and research reports of the Sasquatch phenomena in their own home state.
The Michigan Bigfoot Studies Group is not out to prove that Bigfoot exists and is not trying to convince the scientific community of anything. The Michigan Bigfoot Studies Group does not seek to profit from its activities.
Instead, the group is organized around the following goals:
1) To collect and record all Sasquatch sightings in Michigan.
2) To try to determine the habitat, physical description, and behavior patterns of the creature.
3) To help people who have had or who may be having close encounters with the creature.
4) To obtain photo or video evidence and other evidence of the creature's existence, so that it will be easier to obtain protection for Sasquatch in the state of MI if that becomes necessary.
Bigfoot sightings in the state of Michigan are not uncommon. Michigan sightings seem to be
much more common than is generally suspected and have been reported sporadically for over 30 years now. The Michigan Bigfoot Studies Group has in its data base reports from 64 of Michigan's 81 counties.
Sasquatch is also known to the indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes area and Canada, and their knowledge of the creature goes back as far as their own oral tradition.
Bigfoot is often associated with a foul odor that some say is similar to the stench of a dead animal. The odor may be perceived before the actual creature is spotted. Although many sightings have been attributed to a bear standing on its hind legs, many witnesses have seen the Sasquatch creature running away upright, on two legs, in a manner often described as swift and graceful -
something a bear cannot do.
Witnesses who have seen the creature's face are usually adamant that it was almost human or apelike; although some are unsure exactly what the face looked like, yet were just as sure it was not the face of a bear. Many witnesses are longtime hunters and naturalists in the Michigan area; people who know very, very well the terrain, animals, sounds and shadows of Michigan’s great outdoors.
Sighting a Sasquatch can have intense and unpleasant emotional andpersonal repercussions for witnesses.
[I have had many of these recounted to me personally and in writing by the eye witnesses – Bob D.]
Witnesses worry about ridicule (and often are indeed ridiculed when they share what they saw), and are also often upset and frightened by the unusual nature of their experience and by the animal itself.
Bigfoot is a large and unusual animal and tends to leave a lasting impression on those who see it. A big part of the work of the Michigan Bigfoot Studies Group is public education alongside help and support
for the emotional distress many witnesses feel.
Bob Daigle, a researcher who has been involved in the Michigan Bigfoot Studies Group for many years will be coming out with a book on the Sasquatch phenomenon within the next six months. Watch this page for a review of Bob's book and for more articles about specific Michigan Bigfoot sightings.
