I've never made a secret of my French Women Don't Get Fat fangirl status. In fact, just over a week ago, I wrote here about my appreciation for Mireille Giuliano's approach to food and life.
Well, consider that appreciation doubled. Picking up the mail yesterday, I grabbed a big manila envelope. I love a surprise in the mail and, really, how often does that happen these days?
As it turns out, Giuliano (or her PR crew, at the very least) saw my post and she sent me a thank-you. Not just a form letter, either. I received a copy of French Women for All Seasons and the 2009 French Women for All Seasons Engagement Calendar - both signed with a personal note to me. Plus, a set of cute notecards and a handwritten note from Ms. Giuliano herself - personal enough that she was obviously familiar with my article.
I've been blogging for a couple of years and I've been lucky, in that time, to get some cool gifts (including excellent steakburgers from Roseda Farms, but that's another story)...but this was definitely the best surprise I've had in my mailbox.
And why the oysters? Well, it's just that time of year. Plus, the engagement calendar opens with a recipe for oysters served on a bed of leeks with a cream and oyster sauce. Sounds amazing. I love oysters and Thanksgiving, for me, always triggers a desire to eat as many as possible, as frequently as possible. In any preparation. I'll certainly be writing more about my oyster exploits in the weeks to come.
In the meantime, look for me with my nose buried in a French Women book.
