Welcome to "How to Tuesday", were the first Tuesday of every month I share tips and tricks to learning a new task in the kitchen!

One thing I always love to buy at the market is fresh hummus. But have you ever looked at the prices for a small container? Sometimes they can run up to $6.00! This can really break the bank for a small side or appetizer especially when many people are cutting back on everything down to the grocery bill.

If you are savvy you can still have these things if you learn how to make them at home. I found a can of organic garbanzo beans at Trader Joe for only $0.99! Things like dips are very simple and come together in just minutes, like this one. The result is a fresh creamy dip you can use as a side or even eat with fresh veggies and pita chips.

Try it, your pocket book will thank you!

Hummus
1 15oz. can garbanzo beans (chick peas)
1/8 cup reserved liquid from garbanzo beans
¼ cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
3 tablespoons tahini
1 large galic clove, crushed
½ teaspoon kosher salt
4 tablespoons olive oil
Paprika, for garnish
Toasted pine nuts
Freshly ground black pepper

Directions:
Drain garbanzo beans, reserving 1/8 cup of the liquid. Don’t rinse the beans. In a food processor (or blender), blend the garbanzo beans until creamy. You will know you’ve reached full mixing ability because the processor noise will become uniform. Scrape the sides down with a rubber spatula. Add the reserved liquid, lemon juice, tahini, and crushed garlic. Blend again until smooth. With the machine still running, slowly drizzle the olive oil in. Mix until fully incorporated. Taste the hummus and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle the top with paprika and toasted pine nuts.
