At last night's 2009 BET Awards, [Click here for recap] Jay-Z took to the stage to perform his controversial song "D.O.A.". It seem only fitting to debut the video the same night following the award show. Judging by the video, Jay may have started a new trend in Hip-Hop.
The video opens up to Jay walking into an abandoned warehouse dressed in all black paired with black sunglasses at night. With short clips of him dining at a fine restaurant and performing on a smoky stage, Jay-Z shows that you can remain in Hip-Hop without molding to the current standards. Instead of having half-naked women shaking and moving in his video while rapping with a bottle of the most popular liquor on the market in his hand, Jay paves a new way for his style of music; vintage yet classy.
While that is going on, in short snippets there are explosions of all things deemed dead which includes bottles of Cristal, excessive diamond jewelry, and a clothing rack of what seems to be tight jeans and colorful shirts.
And to those of you that just can't get off of Jay's decision to grow and afro, he gives you a special treat in the video.
A lot of people were not expecting for their to be a video for this song simply because Jay proclaimed it a street single; but it is still refreshing to see a video from Jay-Z, giving hint that an album is sure to follow.
Speaking of Jay-Z, there is word that he had something to do with Chris Brown not showing up to the 2009 BET Awards and most importantly not performing. Apparently, Chris Brown was booted from the line-up.
Though insiders say that a few artists were scrapped from performances to accommodate the Michael Jackson tributes throughout the night, Chris Brown's dancers tend to think otherwise. One of those dancers took to their twitter to express their discontent with Jay-Z and his involvement with causing Chris Brown to miss an opportunity to pay homage to his hero.
Jay-Z is mad childish. Never keep a person from paying there respect.
Seems like a case of he said she said. Whatever the case may be hopefully the allegations are not true because no matter what the circumstance may be, keeping someone from paying their respects to the one that inspired their musical journey, is unacceptable and down right cold.
Jay-Z is scheduled to release his highly anticipated album Blueprint 3 on September 11th, 2009.
