Cadillac Zack at the 2007 Chicago Blues Festival

When you think of Chicago blues bands, you probably don't immediately think of Long Beach, even if the southern California city has the Blue Cafe and The Cellar.

The Cellar is where you will find the Cadillac Zack Blues Band on Saturday 3 January. Cadillac Zack may be based in LA, but his sound is pure Chicago blues. On his site, he lists Johnny Guitar Watson, Albert King, and Magic Slim as some of his major influences. Just by listening to a few cuts, I can tell that Zack didn't just listen to these artists. He absorbed them. Don't just take my word for it though. Cadillac Zack has played with Eddy "The Chief" Clearwater, Carey Bell, and Elmore James Jr. Clearly the guy is doing something right if he can play with heavy hitters like that.

On Saturday, Cadillac Zack will be joined by another very special guest musician: Deacon Jones, who played organ with blues heavyweights John Lee Hooker and Freddie King. But wait! That's not all. You can enjoy this show for the low, low price of $5. Think about that. Five bucks doesn't get you much these days, but for that amount you can take in not only Cadillac Zack, but also a guy that played with Hooker. That's a deal that is difficult to pass up.
