Though many scientists are claiming that the atmosphere has been heating up ever since the industrial revolution, Professor Ian Plimer, a geologist from Adelaide University claims that solar cycles and volcanic ash are the culprits, according to The UK Telegraph.
Plimer stated that, “We cannot stop carbon emissions because most of them come from volcanoes. It is a normal element cycled around in the earth and my science, which is looking back in time, is saying we have had a planet that has been a green, warm, wet planet 80 percent of the time. We have had huge climate change in the past, and to think the very slight variations we measure today are the result of our life – we really have to put ice blocks in our drinks.” He went on to state that scientists who are supporting and even trying to frighten people with the global warming concept are simply being moved by politics and research funding that supports their career.
There seems to be plenty of other evidence out there that the earth is actually not in a time of heating up, but rather, cooling down. A Public Information Statement issued by the National Weather Service in New York states that 2009 has been New York’s coolest year on record since 1897. But let’s check out the other end of the nation for a moment. In Arizona, the National Weather Service reported record lows of less than 100 degrees for two weeks straight over the summer. The last time that they experienced anything like that was back in 1913. Okay, how about bringing other countries into the picture? In 2007, Argentina’s Buenos Aries reported snow in July (their winter) for the first time in 89 years according to an AFP News brief. Chile experienced that same cold weather, while Peru, which is very close to the equator had to, “place half of the county’s 24 departments under a state of emergency.” But as the saying goes, that’s not all. In a heartland.org publication entitled, “Global cooling continues,” writer James M. Taylor stated that, “global temperature data, reported by NASA,” indicates that “2008 was significantly cooler than 2007, and global temperatures for the year were below the average over the past 30 years.” And there are other scientists who share these views.
Back in 2008, over 100 scientists got together and organized a document called, “The Manhattan declaration on climate change,” in which they proclaimed that “’ Global warming’ is not a global crisis” (www.climatescienceinternational.org). There are over 500 scientists who endorse it. Even the BBC recently reported that the earth isn't warming and that it appears to be cooling.
Nevertheless, there is a fight in the Senate to try to get a global warming bill (aka cap and trade) to pass in time for the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen. Republicans are demanding, “a close analysis of the (climate change) bill’s cost and impact on jobs.” Republicans have insisted for months that the bill would amount to an enormous tax that would be destructive to families, retailers, farmers, the transportation industry, many manufacturers, churches, ministries, and many other types of organizations and businesses.
