Are you bullying yourself? Skits 1-8 for your class to act out.

Did you know you can be a bully to yourself? This is illustrated in the role-play called “Squirrel rejects his bushy tail.”

Read the role-play at this link – Be Bully Free role-play: Squirrel rejects his bushy tail

See if it reminds you of any time when you might have rejected or put down any part of your body or your life.

When I shared this story with middle school students several years back, they shared the following reactions.

You may wish to involve your students in acting these scenarios out in skit form or getting them to share some reactions of their own.

Skit Idea #1 – From a seventh-grade boy

“I have asthma. I can’t run very far or very fast.”

Imagine that another boy challenges this boy to a race.

Skit Idea #2 – From four seventh-grade boys about one particular seventh-grade boy we will call Sam.

Sam brags that he is going to beat everyone at Battle Ball. He’ll say things like, “Bring it on!,” but then he runs away.

Another boy said, “When Sam is playing Battle Ball, he always runs away from you after saying, Bring it on!' “

One boy said, “Sam thinks he is always so big and bad, but when it comes to the real thing, then he’s chicken and runs away.”

Imagine that Sam and you are playing Battle Ball.

Skit Idea #3 – From an eighth-grade boy

"I am a very braggy person. One day I was bragging about being able to play football and I said I was better than some people. That made them mad. The next day, they got pay back on me. At practice, they all hit me and knocked the wind out of me."

Imagine that one of those boys just finished "knocking the wind out of you" for bragging.

Skit Idea #4 – From an eighth-grade girl

"When I was playing basketball, I had the ball. I tripped over my feet and the other team got the ball and scored the winning point. Afterward, my whole team was mad at me.”

Imagine that you and one of your teammates were talking after the game.

Skit Idea #5 – From an eighth-grade boy

"In football, I caught a Kick Return. Then one of my friends tripped me up and I about cried.”

Imagine that you are talking to that friend after the game.

Skit Idea #6 – From an eighth-grade girl

"My friend was in trouble and I helped her. But then when I was in trouble, she didn't help me. I asked her why and she said she was too scared. No matter if I was scared or not, I still helped her."

Imagine that are talking to this friend later on.

Skit Idea #7 – From a sixth-grade girl

"I was once walking home from school. These girls followed me down the street and beat me up. I was too small to defend myself. Afterward, they pushed me in the bushes and ran away.”

Imagine that you are talking to one of those girls much later on.

Skit Idea #8 – From an eighth-grade boy

"I feel like my attitude in seventh grade really held me back. I didn't do all my work and I made a lot of zeroes. Now I'm not in the advanced classes anymore, and I think that would have helped a lot in high school.”

Imagine that you are talking this situation over with a teacher or parent.
