Band From TV sounds like a descriptive phrase (which it is) but it’s also the actual moniker for a charity cover band consisting of actors from hit television series who donate the proceeds of their performances to charity. Now the band is releasing its debut album, “Hogging All The Covers,” and this Wednesday (October 21) – for one day only - Amazon.com will offer it as a digital download for just $1.99 as its “Deal of the Day.” Though buyers will get the album for a fraction of the usual $6.99 digital price, (the physical CD/DVD combo is $14.99), Amazon.com will pay the band the full cost of the album, of which 100% of the artists’ proceeds will go to the charities they support.

You may not know these performers as musicians, but you’ll certainly recognize them for their work on TV:
* Greg Grunberg (drums) is a veteran of “Alias” and “Felicity,”currently starring in the NBC hit “Heroes.”
* Hugh Laurie (keyboards) is, of course, the namesake star of the FOX hit, “House.”
* James Denton (guitar) currently stars in ABC’s hit “Desperate Housewives.”
* Bob Guiney (vocals) appeared on “The Bachelor” and is currently seen on TLC's “Date My House," as well as hosting numerous specials on E!, VH1 and elsewhere.

Also featured on the album is Bonnie Sommerville (vocals), most recently seen on “Cashmere Mafia.” Desperate Housewife Teri Hatcher (vocals); another “Heroes” star, Adrian Pasdar (guitar); and Jesse Spencer (violin), also from “House,” are other participants in the project.

Band From TV made its debut at the 58th Primetime Emmy Awards TV Guide afterparty and contributed a song ("You Can't Always Get What You Want") to the “House M.D.” soundtrack. The group appeared on the 2008 "Idol Gives Back" show, performing Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats", and on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in January of this year, performing Billy Preston's "Will It Go Round in Circles.” As the title of the album suggests, this is a covers band; some of the songs on the album include, “Piece of My Heart,” “You Really Got Me,” “Feelin’ Alright,” “Pink Cadillac,” “Lean on Me,” “Hard To Handle” and “Mustang Sally.”

Band From TV’s origins date back a few years ago, to when Grunberg was asked to play a gig at the House of Blues alongside some celebrity friends. The show attracted so much interest that he was inspired to form an ongoing celebrity band that could raise money for charitable causes. Speaking of his personal motivation, Grunberg stated, "My oldest son has epilepsy and I saw this band as a wonderful vehicle to help raise money for the National Epilepsy Foundation.”

The lineup evolved as Grunberg went about his acting career. He met Laurie and Spencer during a guest spot on “House” (it was the “Sex Kills” episode) and jammed with Denton and Guiney at another charity event. "Having band mates who also happen to be in some of the most popular shows on television,” Grunberg admitted, “creates an amazing opportunity to really reach out to our fans to help support these wonderful causes.”

Each of the celebrities has a charity he or she supports, and the proceeds earned from gigs and the band's new CD/DVD will be donated to help those causes. Denton works with The Conservation Fund, Guiney supports The Art of Elysium and Children’s Hospital LA, Laurie performs for Save the Children and Bonnie Somerville performs for the Child Abuse Prevention Program and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Collectively the band supports and performs for the Guitar Center Music Foundation and support for additional charitable organizations is in the works.

During the 24-hour “Deal of the day” event, there will be prizes awarded to fans who download the music and spread the word through social media sites like twitter, Facebook and Myspace. Check out the details.
