"bottoms up" by Dutch designer, Droog

The holidays are in full swing across the nation and the world this week, and what better way to take part in on all the fun than a trip to Baltimore's Contemporary Museum. This is a great time to come out and support Baltimore's top museums, galleries and art organizations. Here are a couple of festivities you might be interested in:

Have you heard? The Contemporary Museum's Winter Party and Design Shop is going retro! Shine on your Go-Go boots, dust off your smoking jackets and poodle skirts to join in on all the fun.

The holiday party to remember will feature cocktails (shaken and stirred), scrumptious food and desserts, groovy lounge music, vintage design silent auction and holiday shopping deals in the design shop. It will also feature the beverage and culinary stylings of places such as Eddie's of Charles Village, Indigam, Mughal Gaden, The Wine Source and Whole Foods Market - Mount Washington.

Monday, December 15, 8:00pm : Motown Modern's "Hard As..." Concert

The musicians of Mobtown Modern are bracing their fingers and tongues for a beating this winter during “Hard as…,” a concert showcasing notoriously challenging selections from the new music genre on Monday, December 15, at 8 p.m. at the Contemporary Museum. “Hard as…” will feature the works of five composers noted for their progressive and complex musical arrangements. The concert is an orchestrated frenzy of notes and time signatures, including Mnemosyne by Brian Ferneyhough, All Set by Milton Babbitt, and Gra, a whirlwind piece for the solo clarinet composed by Elliott Carter. Also putting the Mobtown Modern musicians through their paces will be works by renowned composers Jason Eckardt and Iannis Xenakis.

“Hard as…” brings together musicians Katayoon Hodjati on bass flute; Christopher Blossom on soprano and tenor saxophone; Brian Sacawa on alto and baritone saxophone; James McCain on alto saxophone; Kim Reece on tenor saxophone; Jennifer Everhard on clarinet; Phillip Johnson on trumpet; Todd Sturniolo on trombone; Wojciech Herzyk on vibraphone; Todd Harrison on the drum set; Joel Ciaccio on double bass; and Devin Hurn on piano.

A video installation will be created live during the concert by Guy Werner. Grammy award-winning saxophonist Brian Sacawa and turntablist Erik Spangler introduced the Mobtown Modern music series in January 2008, to provide a venue in Baltimore for the evolving new music genre. The series exposes innovative techniques and trends in new music by presenting works from local and national artists who are defining the emerging style.

General Admission: $10 ; Students/Members: $5 (with valid ID) Please call 410.783.5720 to buy your tickets today!
