Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited Syria last month to bring attention to the plight of refugees there. At the time, there were rumors that Angelina found a young orphan girl among them that she wanted to adopt, and those rumors are now picking up speed. The Syria trip may have been the place where Angelina picked out her seventh child, or it may still be a swirl of rumors. But, there are several news outlets that have picked up the story and there is more information available about Syrian adoption.

According to several sources, the adoption of a Syrian child would be almost impossible for anyone to carry out because of the strict laws against it in Syria. The fact that Angelina Jolie is unmarried and a foreigner count against her even more heavily.

However, the Daily Mail is reporting that an Immigration and Naturalization Service spokesperson confirmed that Angelina Jolie did file adoption papers and that her name was the only name on the papers. If this is true, it's likely that one of two things is happening- either the child isn't Syrian but is a refugee who currently lives in Syria, or the Madonna effect is in motion and she will make large donations in order to be able to adopt even though the laws are against it.
