Ever since Xbox 360 exclusive RPG Fable II became a multimillion seller, it has been safe to assume that British developer Lionhead is planning an eventual third entry in the series. Lionhead founder and charming hyperbolizer Peter Molyneux essentially confirmed as much when he announced that Fable II’s latest downloadable content expansion, “See the Future”, offers players significant hints as to where the series might be headed.
What is surprising is that the first concrete proof that Fable 3 exists has apparently just come from a wedding announcement published by The New York Times. The announcement is for the marriage of Amy Gilbert and Joshua Samuels Atkins. Why should you care? Because Joshua Atkins is described in the announcement as “lead game designer for Fable III”. The New York Times is not prone to misprints, even in its Weddings/Celebrations section, so as of now it appears that a legitimate bit of exciting gaming news has been delivered to us from an extremely unlikely source.
Does this announcement only confirm what every Fable fan virtually already knows? Perhaps, but at least now there is some sort of ‘official’ acknowledgement that Fable 3 exists and Lionhead is working on it in some capacity, even if only very limitedly. Now all we need is for someone to hold a copy of the announcement up to Molyneux’s face and press him for further information.
