Honey not only satisfies your sweet tooth in a healthy way but it is used medicinally, as well.

The early Egyptians used honey on open wounds to keep out infection and speed healing.  It viscous consistency, when applied on a bandage over a wound, keeps out harmful bacteria and is as good as any anti-biotic cream.

Honey and cinnamon, mixed together into a paste, is a good cure for a pimple.

For colds and flu, mix honey with a little brandy or bourbon into hot water for a hot toddy.  If you have a cough, mix honey and lemon juice together and swallow by the tablespoon.  These are old, proven remedies.

Allergies seem to affect everyone in Austin and the Hill Country.  You can cure your allergies by taking at least one tablespoon of honey a day because you are ingesting that which ails you.  It must come from a 60 mile radius of where you live because the area pollen is what is causing your allergies.  Put the honey in your coffee or tea and cereal.  Learn to substitute it for sugar and other processed sweeteners.  It not only tastes better but is healthier for you in the long run.

Note that your allergies will not be cured immediately as it takes about ten days for it to take effect.  If you move to another part of the country make sure you buy local honey from that particular area to receive the benefits.

Some people chew the honeycomb (much like chewing gum).  It works for allergies, too, if you don't like the taste of honey. Squeeze out all the honey first before chewing it.  It takes getting used to the waxy consistency but it works in the same manner.

If you are allergic to bees you should take small amounts to begin with to make sure it won't cause any bad reactions.  If you have headaches, skin flushes or any wheezing, stop using honey or honeycomb all together.

Don't be surprised if the cost for honey goes up.  Honeybees have been disappearing and it is still a mystery as to why this is happening.  There are several theories but nothing conclusive to date.

Being such a magical substance with so many helpful uses, honey should be appreciated at any cost.
