If you've found an unusually large number of solicitations for campaign contributions in your inbox this past week or even today, it is because of Sunday's deadline.
The next campaign filing deadline for candidates running for New York City office is midnight tonight, Sunday, January 11. While there will of course be future filing deadlines and campaign contributions will be accepted straight up throught the 2009 elections, the amount of money that a candidate has made helps to demonstrate their viability as a candidate, judge where they stand in relation to their competitors and often appears in news outlets.
Several candidates are demonstrating this with campaign events and E-mails right up to the lst minute.
