Proving that celebrity can generate political attention, The Nanny star Fran Drescher has indicated her interest in filling the United States Senate Seat from New York being vacated by Secretary of State-Designate Hillary Rodham Clinton

During an appearance last night on The Mike Huckabee show,, Drescher who has cancer and been an outspoken advocate on behalf of woman with the disease said, "People keep telling me that I should run for office and this was the first office to have an opening."

Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas and 2008 Republican presidential candidate, who now hosts his own show on FOX News ended the segment by saying "You're...[an] amazing woman... I Iruly hope that you get it."

A replacement will be appointed by New York Governor David A. Paterson, once Clinton officially resigns.

Drescher's name did not appear on the short list I published on December 8th, but she didn't express interest until a December 15th appearance on CNN's Larry King Live.

While all eyes remain on Caroline Kennedy, in the world of New York politics, anything can happen.
