Leighton Meester tells magazine that her sex tape is not real

Leighton Meester graces the cover of Harper's Bazaar this month (on newsstands August 18) and in the interview discusses the rumored sex tape that appeared in June. The Gossip Girl star has this to say about that tape: "[The tape] is not real, so it makes me sort of sad. It's unfortunate that it got carried as far as it did."
The tape surfaced in June and immediately began making the internet rounds. It was supposedly made several years ago, pre-Gossip Girl, and featured Meester, 23, and a former boyfriend. Celeb Hotline bought the tape and posted it on their site. Until now, Meester has had nothing to say about it.
The experience has given Meester a new outlook about things and appears to have provided a learning experience. "I definitely understand the nature of people better now and that the mere allegation of something like that could be headline news. People think it's real because somebody says it is." Sadly, that does seem to be the way things work these days!
Meester will be back on Gossip Girl this fall on the CW, which will begin airing new episodes on September 14.
