It’s only been a little over a year since Prince Caspian was almost done in by his evil uncle and
child-bearing aunt, but fans can’t wait to see what’s next. Too bad. "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" has been taking on water since it got the greenlight. First Disney jumped ship after "Prince Caspian" ($415 M) didn't come close to the $745 M box office gross of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." Then the director decided to bail (okay, okay, Harry Potter didn’t suffer from the rotation in the director seat).
On the bright side of the yardarm, Twentieth Century Fox threw Walden Media a lifeline to finance "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," and Director Michael Apted will pilot the project through Queensland’s glorious waters. Apted has an impressive number of movies under his tunic, including 2006’s watery "Amazing Grace," a film where he gained experience directing scenes of sailing vessels of yore as well as the slave trade. Remember the capture of the Dawn Treader’s captain and first mates?
Time will tell now if it’ll be fair sailing into Dawn Treader's late 2010 release date. With its budget $75 M less than that of "Prince Caspian," the Dawn Treader will be like everyone else in this economy and make do with less. Will this boat float? Narnia fans hope so. They’ve been waiting a lot of years to see Lucy, Edmund, and Scrubb fall into that painting
