A few random thoughts as the bowl season wrapped up:

1) Can we permanently retire the nickname "Big Game Bob" for Bob Stoops? That's 0-5 in his last five BCS games.

Baylor Bob is much more appropriate, since he makes a nice living feasting on the Baylors of the world. Let's also get rid of the term, "BCS National Championship." Let's just call it what it is: America's Biggest Fraud.

2) Oklahoma was every bit as talented as Florida, if not more so. But as in the Texas game, when it got tight, no one stepped up and made plays. OU has a lot in common with USC; they are awesome looking when blowing teams out. When they face teams of equal talent level and get punched in the mouth, they don't respond.

3) No one will say Texas could have beaten Florida because they struggled against Ohio State. You will hear a lot of USC and some Utah. You won't hear any Texas. You should. The Longhorns could play with Florida. Florida beat OU by 10 in what was essentially a home game. Texas beat OU by 10 on a neutral field. Yes, it is a dead horse, but we will beat it anyway.

4) Sam Bradford will be a great pro quarterback. His receivers at OU -- other than tight end Jermaine Gresham -- are below average. And Tim Tebow can play in the NFL, too -- as a quarterback -- despite what the Mel Kuipers of the world say.

5) Utah deserved the 16 votes it got in the AP poll. The Utes were as impressive as any bowl team.

6) Hey, proponents of the plus-one model -- what two teams would you choose now? That lame idea doesn't work either. There's only one true playoff plan that works. Sadly, we'll never see it.

7) The SEC is still better than the Big 12 at playing defense, and until that changes, the SEC will keep winning titles.

8) As the season wore on, Florida's loss to Mississippi doesn't look so bad, does it?

9) The Mountain West was pretty darned good, with two teams in the top 10, three in the top 25 and five in bowl games. The MWC was 3-2 in bowls, including big wins over Alabama by Utah and over Boise State by TCU. The Big East was 4-2 as well, but does anyone really believe the Big East is as good as the MWC? Or that the ACC's best teams are as good as the Mountain West's?

You won't hear much about these guys either, but Conference-USA was pretty good, too (4-2). Conference USA West was 3-0 with wins by Tulsa, Rice and Houston. All three of those teams should have been in the final Top 25. C-USA is closer to being the Big East than the Big East is to being the SEC, Big 12 or Pac-10. And don't even get us started on the Big 10.

10) BCS coordinator John Swofford says the BCS is in compliance with antitrust laws in the wake of a possible investigation by the Utah Attorney General.

I don't know what we expect. Honesty would be nice. "Yes, we are essentially a cartel. A group of public universities got together, excluded a large amount of other institutions to take all the money and all the glory, beat them down and then tell everyone they aren't good enough to play with us and the media (most of whom are from BCS schools) back us up. We are criminals. We are the mafia. Hah hah. Losers. We laugh in the face of the President of the U.S. We laugh at the government. The country is filed with suckers."

Note: Nice how the NCAA says "It isn't us; it's the BCS. We don't have anything to do with it."

Get involved then, NCAA. Create your own playoff. Idiots.

The entire system is a complete joke. Swofford tells us non-BCS teams (excuse us, "non-automatic qualifiers"), have more access to the large bowls now than ever before.

What they don't have is access to the Fake National Championship. Under the old system, BYU went unbeaten and won a title in 1984.

The system sucks, Mr. Swofford. Truly defending it is impossible. Just change your name to Saddam Swofford and take your money.

But what the heck do I know? I was only 22-12 against the spread in the bowls.
