Eddie Murphy has had a rough time at theaters over the last few years. There was the disappointing box office for "Meet Dave" (one of the biggest bombs of that year) with $11m; there was the more recent disaster of "Imagine That" with $16m; And, while "Norbit" managed to earn nearly $100m at theaters, it holds a 9% rating on RottenTomatoes. The next project for Murphy may put him back on track, though: "The Misadventures of Fluffy". Read on for the details, my gentle Examiner readers...
First of all, yes, that's the name of the movie: "The Misadventures of Fluffy". We know it sounds made-up, but we swear to you that's the title. What else do we know about the film? Let's see what The Hollywood Reporter is telling us about comedian Eddie Murphy's latest project:
The A-lister is attached to produce and could potentially star in “The Misadventures of Fluffy,” a new buddy comedy that’s been set up at Paramount.
Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly sold the pitch for the R-rated comedy and will write the script. The project is described as a road trip pic through New York featuring talking animals, and with an element of social comedy reminiscent of Murphy’s 1980’s hit “Trading Places.”
Let's recap that for you, this time without that annoying green text: Eddie Murphy's next film will take him on a "road trip" (that somehow never leaves New York) and will feature talking animals and "social comedy". The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Murphy's presently signed on only as a producer, with the option of joining the film as its lead. Didn't we just hear a little while ago that Murphy was set to reprise his role as Axel Foley in another "Beverly Hills Cop" sequel?
Paramount is already in the Eddie Murphy business, with writers currently being sought for the studio’s “Beverly Hills Cop IV.”
That film-- which remains untitled but will likely just be called "Beverly Hills Cop 4"-- is rumored to be directed by Brett Ratner, which film geeks will remember angrily as the man who "ruined" their precious "X-Men" franchise long before "Wolverine: X-Men Origins" did. Bottom line here is, Murphy's got quite the lineup planned for audiences. Stay tuned to the Comedy Examiner's Office for more on all of these projects as the information becomes available.
What did you think of Murphy's last few films? Should he be in Hollywood jail by now, allowed out only to voice "Donkey" in whatever "Shrek" sequel they're on these days, or does he have a few more good films in him? Sound off in the comments section below, folks: we wanna know what you're thinking! And, after that, check out these other recent articles from the Comedy Examiner's Office:
