The Florida Gator men's basketball team capped a stellar week of play with a 73-58 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to win the Legends Classic tournament in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and improve to 6-0 for the year.
After upsetting Michigan State Friday night, the Gators played a very efficient and well defensed game on Saturday night. As a team, Florida shot 53% from the floor, including almost 40% from three point range. Florida out-shot and out-rebounded Rutgers, and were +1 in turnover margin. The Gators got out in front early and never let Rutgers get too close, preventing any substantial run in the second half that could have brought them back into the game.
Freshman Kenny Boynton lead all Gators in minutes played and points scored, totaling 19. Center Vernon Macklin had 14 points and lead Florida with 8 rebounds. Mike Rosario lead Rutgers with 14 points.
Few expected the Gators to be undefeated at this point in the season, and the Gators look to remain undefeated on Tuesday, when they host Florida A&M at 7pm.
