The new look (icethetics)

With new third jerseys popping up everywhere around the NHL, the Flyers are taking a different approach to unveiling their new third jerseys. It will be out just in time for the holiday season... the perfect gift for the Flyers fan in your life.

They will be showing off their new retro threads during a special season ticket holder's "meet the team" party on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30 p.m. at the Wachovia Center:

Courtesy of the Flyers media release:

Philadelphia Flyers season ticket holders will be the first anywhere to see the brand new Flyers retro orange jerseys the team will begin wearing as an alternative third jersey as part of their uniform during an exclusive “meet the team” party at the Wachovia Center.

During the “meet the team” party, season ticket holders can obtain autographs and photos of their favorite Flyers players, as well as win prizes and play games, including Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution and other fun games.

Fans can order the new retro orange jersey beginning on Wednesday, November 19, exclusively at philadelphiaflyers.com. Fans can then purchase the jerseys in person at the Wachovia Center beginning on Friday, November 28 at 7 a.m.

According to the release, this means that the jersey should be worn on the annual Black Friday afternoon game. This year that game is November 28 at 1:00 pm against Carolina. If you remember correctly, the last third jersey that the Flyers had was first worn on that Black Friday game a number of years ago.

I think that this new look is pretty special. Unlike the last third jersey, it doesn't try to do too much. It just works based on the franchise's heritage. It is almost an exact replica of the 1973-74 jerseys in which they won the Stanley Cup. I especially like the white namestrip on the back... that is something that was original to the Flyers, and I am glad they brought that back.
