Trends in paint color are important to take into consideration whether you're building a new home or updating an existing one. You'll be living with the color you select for a long time, so make sure it's a color which you love, which sets the mood of the room and which isn't so unusual or dated that you'll be unhappy with your choice in a short period of time.
In my previous article, I discussed how to select paint color. A fresh coat of paint can easily transform the look and feel of a space. Now let’s take a look at the colors that designers are choosing for clients and that residential builders are targeting in model home tours.
Go Green
Today’s emphasis on eco-consciousness in green building and on earth-friendly living has inspired grassy and yellow-greens, tranquil blues, serene neutrals and organic browns. Green is being increasingly used as a neutral and can be paired with almost any other color. In 2009 and 2010 we’ll be seeing green in everything from fabrics to accessories to area rugs.

Go Ethnic
International influences which shape our world have created increasing awareness of the global community and have inspired an ethnic, spicy color palette. This color collection includes bold shades of earthly, deep orange, brick red, and cinnamon. A more natural extension of this trend focuses on rust, terra cotta, pumpkin orange and cranberry - vibrant yet organic.
.

Go Gray
Covering a wide range of hues from soft gray to charcoal, gray is a neutral which can be bold or peaceful. Restful shades in subdued tones which foster peace can be paired with pink, cream or violet. Deeper shades make a bold statement when paired with stark white, black or red.
Go Royal
So popular in apparel two years ago, purple has made its way into the home. Combined with white, taupe or gray, purple creates an ambiance that’s sophisticated yet trendy. Also fabulous are shades of violet and wine.
