Oracle's Partner Expo Online was the ultimate in virtual conferencing. The event took place:

   Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm PT

North America Oracle Partner eXpo Online: A free virtual tradeshow,

Entering the Expo had all the appearances of a real world event with all the bells and whistles.  By clicking on a menu at the bottom of the Expo you could enter the various locations:the Plaza, the Exhibit Hall, the Auditorium where Keynote speakers were live or on webcasts and a resource center with product information, white papers or presentations listed by company. This virtual Plaza consisted of several booths manned by Oracle Partners. Some of the companies represented were Triad Biometrics, Symantec, Blue Coat, a Business Intelligence firm, Arrow (Enterprise 2.0 Content Management, Symantec (Norton speak) and quite a few others, each with a canned presentation. It was ingenious.

Each attendee could choose an Avatar and was given a briefcase to save information. The take aways, such as whitepapers, were every bit as comprehensive in downloadable PDFs as the real thing. The Expo itself was every bit as effective as being in person without the airfare, travel expenses, parking and meals. This was the first of a new virtual conference Oracle will be presenting annually .  When I arrived there were 70 in attendance. I immediately visited several booths and downloaded a couple of presentations. I then signed up for the real savvy giveaways;an iPod, a 45 inch plasma TV and an Outback Steakhouse dinner for two. To enter for the giveaways one just had to visit a booth or sit in on a keynote speaker and complete a survey afterwards. Mind you, I did all of this from the comfort of my home office. If you missed this one you will want to be there for the second annual Oracle Partner Expo next year. Kudos to Oracle for a job well done.
