This weekend only, you can catch a delightful romp in the seamy underbelly of the classic Nutcracker saga: The Slutcracker at the Somerville Theatre.

The Slutcracker is an adults-only spectacle featuring a crew of local performance artists, including burlesque and can-can dancers, drag kings, hoopers, ballerinas, acrobats, belly dancers, actors, and actresses. This irreverent take-off of the E.T.A. Hoffman classic chronicles the adventures of Clara, a pure-as-the-driven-snow 20-something who receives a special, umm, toy for Christmas – much to the consternation and envy of her boyfriend Fritz. Thus, our heroine is propelled on a fantastical exploration of her own sexual awakening, accompanied by all sorts of sexy and exciting cohorts.

The show was created and directed by Vanessa White (a.k.a. Sugar Dish), a Boston-area burlesque star.

The Slutcracker plays tonight and two shows tomorrow at the Somerville Theatre.
