When it comes to cool rock chicks, The Pretenders matriarch Chrissie Hynde comes top of the list. Hynde and her resuscitated band (oops, unfortunate choice of words there, given The Pretenders early history with drugs, overdoses...) will release an iTunes "Originals" set, Dec. 23. The Pretenders edition contains new recordings of songs that trace the band's career, as well as interviews with Hynde exploring the origins of her songs. Incongruously, "Love's A Mystery," from the band's 2008 release "Break Up The Concrete,” is also included, but as-is.
Also, the band will release a digital holiday EP, which features a new recording of its classic wintry holiday song, "2000 Miles," along with covers of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," and "Blue Christmas." The later is also destined to be included in the video game, “Rock Band.” Meanwhile, back in the real world of real musicians playing their own songs, The Pretenders will tour the US for six weeks starting January 29 in Albany, NY.
