As Seen on TV product pitchmen Billie Mays and Anthony “Sully” Sullivan made an appearance this week on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. They talked about their new Discovery Channel series named PitchMen that has met with much success since its start.
They came rehashing pitches of some of the known and not as well known products we’ve seen on TV over the years including the Handy Helper, the Rotator (potato peeler, the first infomercial product Andrew Sullivan ever hawked on TV), the Swivel sweeper and Billie Mays’ Zorbeez (predecessor to Shamwow, Popular Mechanics compared the two but are still waiting for the much anticipated “pitch-off” between Billie Mays and Shamwow pitchman Vince).
What’s new on the horizon? They treated The Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien to the iTie, a tie that can button to the shirt and not fall forward in your soup. Another plus for business men is the fancy business card holder in the back of the tie.
Billy Mays has become an iconic television personality with quite the following. He discussed his start 27 years ago with the same company that Ed McMahon worked for when they used to pitch products on the boardwalk. It was a timely remembrance of the former Tonight Show star that had passed away earlier that day. Billy remembers him as one of the best pitchmen ever.
Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan can be seen on PitchMen Wednesday evenings at 10 PM EST on the Discovery Channel. If you’ve missed the show the first season, you can catch up on July 1st when the Discovery Channel has a PitchMen marathon starting at 11 AM EST before the 10 PM series premiere of PitchMen : Revenge of the Pitchmen.
