There is a debate that has been going on in the Catholic Church for some time now, and it centers around this question: Is it better to receive communion by having the priest set the host directly on your tongue, or is it better to take communion and feed it to yourself?  Different parishes practice different habits, and often there is a mix of opinions even within one parish.  Another noticeable difference between one parish and the next is whether the participants receive the wine during Eucharist.  It is, of course, a personal preference, and no one would condemn another over this issue.  It used to be that both the wine and the bread must be tasted, and that it was proper to have the priest place the host directly in the celebrant's mouth.  This is because some believed--and continue to believe--that the host ought not to be touched by unclean hands.  The practice of feeding the host to oneself is slightly more recent, and has become more common especially after Vatican II.

I would like to know what the readers think of this issue.  Below is a poll for you to answer, and feel free to leave your comments!
