Sarah Palin's diet and exercise secrets
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has stirred up a media firestorm ever since former Rep. presidential nominee John McCain chose her as his vp running mate back in November 2008.
Since then, Palin, 45, has made international headlines for engaging in an absurd feud with talk show host David Letterman and excoriating an Alaskan blogger for doctoring a photo of her special-needs son, Trig.
But under the librarian hairstyle is a surprisingly athletic and fitness-oriented individual (Editor's note: I disagree with Sarah Palin politically on practically every issue. This article discusses her diet and fitness regimen, not her politics).
To keep in shape, Palin, a mom of five, is an avid runner. "Conventional running is my sanity," she told the Wall Street Journal. "I usually write my best speeches and letters [in my head] while out running."
In fact, Palin routinely ran 7 to 10 miles almost every day but switched to aerobics classes when she became pregnant with her fifth child, Trig (who was born in April 2008). After his birth, Palin worked her way back up to running three miles every other day.[See more details on her workouts here.]
During the summer, she sometimes runs as late as midnight, and in the winter (when it's dark), Palin runs outdoors in the afternoon or on her treadmill at home in the evening. Palin, a former Miss Alaska runner-up, also adheres to a healthy diet. "My family and I eat a healthy diet heavy in wild Alaskan seafood, moose, caribou and fresh fruit," she said.
Meanwhile, Sarah Palin was recently named the most popular figure in the GOP, according to a new Pew Research Center poll. The poll surveyed leading GOP politicians' favorability among both Republicans and the general public. Palin scored highest, with a whopping 73% of Republicans giving her a favorable rating.
Not surprisingly, Palin's favorability ratings was split nearly in half among the general public: she received 45% of favorable votes versus 44% unfavorable. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney came in second. He received a 57% favorability rating among Republicans and a 40% rating among the general public.
