The greatest snow on earth is Utah’s catch phrase. But when the snow melts away and the summer heat is on, dinosaurs can be found in many places in this state. One of those places is the George S. Eccles’ Dinosaur Park. This adventurous park is both fun and educational for the young and old. With more than eight acres of natural habitat for these life-sized creatures, you’re sure to get your dinosaur fix for the summer here! So, if you’re looking for a hidden adventure in Northern Utah, and there’s no snow on the ground, head to this indoor/outdoor dinosaur museum for a trip to the past!
The George S. Eccles’ Dinosaur Park is in Ogden, Utah. Located at the mouth of the Ogden Canyon, the outdoor portion of the park has a beautiful backdrop of the Wasatch Front mountain range. The park boasts a working paleontology lab (that is observable) and more than 100 specimens that include animatronics and state-of-the-art sound systems. These dinosaurs are life size, move and make noise!
This is an awesome place to visit with children. The park offers a gem mine and a gold mine where the younger crowd can pan for gold (Okay, iron pyrite) and hunt for gem stones that they get to take home. There is also a play area and a laboratory where there is plenty of hands-on experience. Outside, off of one of the many trails is a giant “sandbox” what has concrete fossils buried in the bottom for the young ones to dig, brush and excavate. The park supplies the tools to uncover the fossils.
If you’re wondering what it would be like to come face-to-face with terrifying Utahraptor or a 45-foot long, 20-foot high Tyrannosaurus, this dinosaur park is the place to visit. If you are looking for a place that the kids can run around a huge park that includes a 40-foot T-Rex slide while you relax by the lake where you will see the Opthalmosaurus and Elasmosaurus swimming, they can accommodate that too.
A gift shop and the Cretaceous Corner Café offer trinkets and refreshments for your day trip. There are a lot of walking trails but almost all of them are accessible to anyone (paved) and there are plenty of benches to rest on. This is truly a park for all to enjoy and learn a bit about the past.

Be sure to check out their website that features videos of TV and radio spots starring the park’s popular spokesman Zane, the Dino Brain. The website also has a lot of information regarding special events, maps, day camp and reservation information.
