I first told Gun Rights Examiner readers about Oath Keepers a month ago. They describe themselves as "Military, Veterans, and peace officers who will honor their oaths to defend the Constitution, will NOT 'just follow orders,' will stand for liberty, and will save the Republic, so help us God."
Many of them had a chance to take the following oath on Lexington Green this past Patriots' Day:
I ________, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support and defend Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same. That I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion pledging my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor. So help me God.
Boston Gun Rights Examiner Ron Bokleman was there, and brings us an eyewitness report, complete with a video and a slideshow.
So was friend and colleague Mike Vanderboegh, who, in addition to an inspiring account of the day also give us a humbling lesson in commitment. Mike's medical problems made this effort one of personal pain and sacrifice that he was not only willing to endure, but insistent on. Now compare this to gun owners who won't even forward a link or send an email because...ah, who cares what the hollow excuse is?
Charlotte Gun Rights Examiner Paul Valone also brings us a report.
Now ask yourself why the "Authorized Journalists" in the so-called "mainstream media" did not.

And now for that "oath breaker" I promised in the headline
Here's the Oath of Office for the US Senate:
I, __________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."
Well, turncoat Kirsten Gillibrand is at it again. I've warned you about her as best I can (and how). Now go on over and see what some of my fellow Gun Rights Examiners have to say about her latest infringement proposal:
Howard Nemerov in Austin refers to her as "Kirsten Gillibrand: Gun control’s new spokesperson."
And Kurt Hofmann in St. Louis reminds us of the betrayals by her and her political colleagues when he tells us "Here it comes: closing the mythical 'gun show loophole,' and the turning of a 'pro-gun Democrat'."
I'd just like to add two more things--a note and a personal anecdote:
Regular readers will recall I told you last February that "Preserving 2nd Amendment Rights" wasn't a big enough concern for her any more to update on her official website. Apparently it still isn't. I guess positioning herself for justifying more infringements is a bigger priority.
And now the anecdote: As a response to my exposés on Gillibrand, a prominent member of a New York state gun rights group that has backed her rise to power had this to say about my reports on a popular gun blog:
Codrea, as usual, doesn’t know what he’s talking about...I’ve met her in person...Dave, [sic] I’m quite sure you don’t actually know what you’re talking about, but that’s never stopped you in the past so why should it now? M..........g to Red Dawn has never gotten you anywhere, but if you and your fan boys enjoy it so much, pop in the collectors edition and enjoy yourselves.
Putting this aside and bringing the level of dialog back to one of concrete actions to take, I'd say it's past time for this group--and the NRA--to publicly reassess their endorsements and ratings of Gillibrand.
And referencing back to the title of today's column, it's past time Americans had a chance to look at Oath Keepers side-by-side against oath breakers, and see for themselves how they compare. Perhaps fearing people may do this partially explains why Janet Napolitano's DHS report is so quick to tar veterans with the "extremist" brush...?
------------
A noteworthy comparison
I talked about Knob Creek in yesterday's column and observed:
Funny thing about Knob Creek. Ordinary Americans have access to all kinds of firepower and yet 15,000 of them manage to get along just fine.
Maybe, just maybe it's not the guns...?
A reader at my online journal, The War on Guns, reminded me of a post from just a few days ago about an "anti-gun" rally in "gun-free" England--a place I refer to as "Sarah Brady Paradise," because they've enacted all the laws she (publicly) demands and more:
Shakah Anderson is accused of shooting dead Mohamed Korneh and Selorn Gbesenete, both 21, at the Tudor Rose night club in Southall at Unarmed 2, dedicated to stopping gun crime among young black people, the jury was told.
Let me repeat myself: Maybe, just maybe it's not the guns...?
