We've seen how the Southern Poverty Law Center has found smearing Oath Keepers a good tactic to exploit and call attention to themselves, and we've seen how some in the media jump at the chance to abet them. No doubt feeling left out on an opportunity for some publicity, the Anti-Defamation League has come out with "Oath Keepers and Three Percenters Part of Growing Anti-Government Movement" as their way of jumping on the bandwagon.
Regular readers here know about Oath Keepers--they're the current and retired members of law enforcement and military "who will fulfill the Oath we swore, with the support of like minded citizens who take an Oath to stand with us, to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God. Our Oath is to the Constitution."
How dare they!!!
And the "Threepers"?
It's not really a group so much as a mindset, best exemplified on the Sipsey Street Irregulars website by Mike Vanderboegh, the "alleged leader of the merry band." Quite simply, we are Americans who will not disarm (yes, I said "we").
The thing is, aside from making a lot of innuendos, ADL has nothing to say about either group advocating violence or bigotry.
That's because Oath Keepers specifically says:
We are Not advocating or promoting the overthrow of any government...We are Not advocating or promoting violence...We are Not advocating or promoting any act or acts of aggression against any organization or person for any reason including, but not limited to; race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, gender or sexual orientation.
We hope for a return to a Constitutional Republic free from fear and hatred.
My. That's certainly extreme.
And one of the "Prime Directives" for the Three Percenters: "No Fort Sumters" (meaning, no initiation of force--a classical libertarian/moral principle. Access the linked page and do a "find" search for the term "Sumter").
And there is no more passionate enemy against racists and anti-Semites than Mike. Again, click the links and find the terms.
So back to the ADL "report": What is it they accuse either the Oath Keepers or the Threepers of doing that is illegal, or violent, or hateful, or immoral or fattening...?
Uh...nothing. But they did fill up a page making false starts and going nowhere with them. And then characterized Americans who support the Tea Party movement as "anti-government"--just so anyone who's not on board with unconstitutional government power grabs can be lumped in with "extremists."
Here's the thing to keep in mind when ADL spouts off with their fraudulent rhetoric and bluster: It's not people like us who would deny full enfranchisement of all rights, including the right to keep and bear arms, to racial and religious minorities.
It's them. The folks with the Orwellian name, who defame their political opponents while pretending to be against the evil practice...
