Across the nation, gun sales are up. The cause is attributed to fear over what new citizen disarmament edicts a Barack Obama presidency will bring. And Cleveland is no different. Per WKYC-TV:
Gun shop owner Diane Donnett says politics and fear of property crimes in an uncertain economy are two reasons her handgun sales are up 10 top 15 percent over last year...
In Cuyahoga County the number of conceal carry permit applications is up 25 percent over all of last year.
"People are worried. People are worried about their rights to own guns being taken away from them," Donnett said.
And why would they fear that? As I wrote in my pre-election commentary:
Obama is a career gungrabber. He has stated he wants to ban semiautomatic rifles. He has stated he supports a national ban on concealed carry. He has advocated "banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns..." He advocates different application of the Bill of Rights based on where you live. And despite what he says after the decision on the historic Heller case, he'd previously deemed the DC gun ban constitutional.
It would seem a degree of fear is warranted. As should be a degree of renewed commitment and resolve to restore and preserve our right to keep and bear arms (YOU are doing something, right?).
WKYC further observed:
We checked eight other gun stores in the Cleveland area. Some reported no increase, other gun shop owners have seen handgun and ammo sales up 10 to 30 percent.
No one has seen a drop in sales despite the recessed economy.
That kind of puts a different twist on "The people have spoken," don't you think?
