Officer Tim Foley was asked the question “What are the rules regarding bike riding and being intoxicated? Can you get a DUI for it?” Officer Foley's responded:

“A bicyclist cannot be charged with DUI, because that only applies to motor vehicles... “

Read the rest of Officer Foley's answer in the Bellingham Herald newspaper.

Riding a bicycle drunk is illegal in most states but according to Officer Foley it is legal in Washington. In Florida riding a bicycle while drunk is illegal. Recently in Springhill Florida officers arrested 2 intoxicated bike riders on the same day.

I advise you not to ride your bicycle drunk even if you are in Washington State. I'm not sure which is more dangerous, riding your bicycle drunk or riding with an alligator on your shoulders.
