SDCC: DC Universe Editorial Presentation
This past Saturday at Comic-Con, DC Comics’ editors held their DC Universe Editorial panel with some of their writers and artists.
Before going into any announcements or comments made by any of the panelist, two cosplayers must be noted. One dressed as Marvel’s Captain America, but the catch being that he was sporting a Black Lantern logo, an obvious reference to DC’s current big event, Blackest Night.
The other costume was pointed out was someone dressed as Northstar, member of Marvel’s Canadian super-team, Alpha-Flight. When it was the young man’s turn to ask a question, a few of the panelist complimented him on his Northstar costume, he responded by saying that in fact, his tailor was color-blind, and that he was actuality wearing the costume of Sinestro.
With that, the panel was off to a raucous start.
In no particular order here is a run down of what was announced or commented on at the panel:
- One of the panelists was Scott Ian, lead singer of Anthrax, and was there to plug his upcoming Lobo: Highway to Hell comic that legendary artist, Sam Keith will be providing the art chores.
- J. Michael Straczynski will be the main writer integrating the Red Circle characters in the DCU.
- Gail Simone pointed out that Black Alice will make an appearance in Secret Six, and that the team may possibly expand into a Secret Seven. And in her other book, Wonder Woman, that Black Canary will join the Amazon Princess for two issues to as they go undercover as cage fighters. Moreover, that Diana will embrace more of her superhero side and, less of her duties as the Amazonian Princess.
- Eric Wallace, the new writer of Titans (as of issue 14), says that the team will get a new leader in the form of Deathstroke: The Terminator.
- Sterling Gates will be writing the new on-going Kid Flash series.
- Geoff Johns will write the new ongoing Flash title that will follow the current Flash: Rebirth mini-series. What’s more is that Johns will re-team with Scott Kollins on a Blackest Night: Flash mini-series later this year.
- It was announced that DC had just cleared the license to start using the Thunder Agents characters.
- James Robinson reiterated that when his run on Justice League of America kicks off this fall with artist Mark Bagley, that Mon-El, Donna Troy, and Batman (Dick Grayson) will represent the big three alongside Hal Jordan-Green Lantern. No other team members were announced at the con, let alone the panel, but Robinson did tease that in an upcoming Blackest Night tie-in, Dr. (Kimiyo) Light will face off against "Black Lantern, Bad Dr. (Arthur) Light."
- DC even showed off the cover to the upcoming Booster Gold #23, which is a photo cover of G4’s Blair Butler sporting a Booster Gold fan-club t-shirt. DC even had one of those t-shirts on hand to show off, and could be found for sale at the Graphitti Designs booth in the exhibit hall.
All in all, it was a spirited panel, as they usually always are.
